In cribbage players don't decide who deals first - the deck does. So what's the advantage of dealing first in cribbage?
Before a cribbage game, players both cut the deck and the player with the lowest card deals first. Seems like a little thing but there is an advantage to dealing first. Statistically, the player who deals first wins 55% to 60% of the time.
Think about this - if the game ends in an odd number of deals (50% chance) then the dealer has an extra hand. That's a significant advantage.
To determine who deals first, both players cut the deck. The player with the lowest card deals first (aces are the lowest card and King the highest).
